Do you shudder at the thought of a single use coffee cup or plastic bag? Perhaps you get a warm and fuzzy feeling when your online order arrives in a compostable post pack? If you answered YES and you’d like to be more involved in the local waste-reducing revolution, the Sustainable Upper Ovens (SUO) committee would love to welcome you onboard.
SUO is a local community group dedicated to working with the community to create a better future for our environment. Volunteers are warm and welcoming, and dedicated to bringing great ideas to life.
In the last year, SUO has:
Prevented over 700 single use mugs going to landfill though our Mug Library
Held two Clothes Swap events, preventing numerous items of clothing from going to landfill
Held a Community Carbon Action Plan Day, providing hundreds of locals with practical and affordable ways to reduce their carbon footprint
Trained 4 local volunteers to become Energy Household Assessors
Launched the ‘Alpine Unwrapped’ initiative to increase the use of reusables in the hospitality and accommodation industries
SUO has lots of ideas for sustainable projects that would benefit the local community and environment and would love a few more people to get on board to help roll them out.
If you’re hesitant to commit, don’t fret – the committee is very relaxed and happy for you to be involved as much or as little as you feel you can manage; helping out at the Mug Library only takes an hour a month!
If you’d like to learn more about SUO, and how you can be involved:
Come along to their AGM on Sunday 18 September at 4pm (The Pavilion, Pioneer Park, Bright)
Send an email to info@sustainableupperovens.org.au
Drop in for a chat at the monthly Bright market (you’ll find SUO volunteers at the Mug Library)
