The objectives of the Community Energy and Electric Vehicle (EV) group (CE&EV) are to electrify our community and support a fair transition to renewable energy for all. CE&EV aims to enhance energy resilience and security in the valley while promoting sustainable building practices and cost-effective methods to improve our thermal comfort.
The group holds bi-monthly meetings to report back to members on past and current activities and to plan and coordinate future actions. The meetings are conducted both in-person and via Zoom.

CE&EV utilised funding from a Bendigo Bank Bushfire Recovery Grant to provide Home Electrification Grants (HEG) for five homes that would otherwise have been unable to benefit from solar power generation. The grant enabled the installation of a total of 40 kW of solar PV and significantly reduced each home’s electrical use.
Three Community batteries for Alpine Shire are expected to be in place by 2026, thanks to our collaboration with Alpine Shire Council and Indigo Power.
As a member of Electrifying Hume, obtained funding that will be used to support and raise awareness of home electrification opportunities in the Hume region.
Race for 2030: Energy Upgrades for Australian Homes (EUAH) program. A partnership between Alpine Shire Council and CE&EV is one of ten groups nationally chosen to participate. The program is developing an online platform that will give local governments and community organisations the tools and resources to design and deliver localised home energy upgrade programs.
The design and engagement of traffic management in the Bright CBD will be considered by the Alpine Shire Council as an initial step towards a possible future electric community shuttle bus system.
Ten homes participated in the 2022-23 Project Edge research project, run by Mondo in Bright, as part of an AEMO-funded proof-of-concept trial funded by the Australian Energy Market Operator to control home batteries to support the grid.
