The Bright Community Garden received a $591 Community Grant from the Alpine Community Council last year to enable food waste from local events to be composted on site and used for fertilising our garden beds. The grant also included wheelie bins for storing weeds and turning them into weed tea as organic fertiliser. These have now been installed ready for use.
Signage will be set up to educate visiting playgroups, preschool and school groups in the recycling of food waste into growing more food.
Once the winter is over and the Community Garden volunteers are active again, there will be an open day to showcase this new facility.
